We have all heard the quote from Eleanor about doing things that scare us but what about just learning new things, even if they don't scare us? Don't worry I'm not now going to list all of the reasons you should learn something new. Well, full disclosure I WAS going to do that but as I started to research the topic I noticed that the only stuff I could find was stuff from other blogs. Apparently it is a popular thing to blog about. Rather than join the crowd and list all these stats and information, I am instead going to share my experience learning something new recently.
Most of my siblings are very artsy and crafty. While I have spent most of my life trying to be artsy, it never quite came to fruition. That being said, I never stop trying. It is for this reason that I recently decided to take a class in calligraphy. I see all these people on blogs and instagram that do the coolest stuff with their handwriting and that is NOT what my handwriting looks like so I figured why not try something new?
If I'm going to learn something new, I'm not just gonna let anyone teach me, I need the best. Enter Laura Hooper Calligraphy's workshop in Washington DC. Laura is at the top of her game and still makes time to teach people around the country all about her craft. It was a great day full of beautiful flowers by EightTreeStreet Floral Design, ONEHOPE wine, Belvoir Fruit Farms, snacks and a fantastic space at Karson Butler Events DC.
Here are a few great pictures of the day courtesy of AnDCreatives.
I'm feeling very artsy after a glass or two of the wine...
This makes me look like the class clown for sure...(that may have been the case for real though)
learning the proper technique for using the nib and ink together. I look super legit, pretty sure Laura would be proud...
practice makes perfect....hmmm...
I may or not have taken these flowers with me...It was a great day.
what new thing are you learning this week?
