feminism...it's time to get on board

It's a bonus post day and for good reason.

On this day in 1920, our lives as women in America were forever changed thanks to some extremely courageous, intelligent and strong-willed women. Some think the fight stopped there. It did NOT. Equal rights for women is still a topic that needs courageous, intelligent and strong-willed women to pick up the flag and demand change. We are not paid equally, we are not educated equally, our opportunities are not equal, our rights are often decided for us.

So, like these amazing feminist women before me.

i am a feminist.

I believe wholeheartedly that we should all be feminist (women AND men). This isn't about bra burning and being angry, it is about giving all people access to equal opportunities, and an equal access to have their voice be heard. First step to this is to take what these women fought so hard to give us...a voice, and USE IT. So ‪#‎vote‬‪#‎speak‬ ‪#‎demandmore‬ It is a new wave of feminism folks, and it is global because we should care about women everywhere.

For more information on the long struggle for voting rights that women fought for in our country and the details of the 19th amendment that was ratified on this day in 1920...

Know your history and don't let it be in vain.

It's time to get on board.

Girls Inc. PNW Purse-0-Nality of 2016

Today, I am thrilled to tell you that I am one of the final nominees for the Girls Inc. Pacific Northwest "Purse-o-Nality of 2016". This is part of their Power of the purse program they hold each year.

Power of the Purse was created ten years ago to raise awareness about the importance of economic independence for women. Over the past ten years the event has raised over a million dollars in net revenue to support Girls Inc. programming.

Girls Inc.'s mission is to inspire girls to be strong, smart and bold while empowering girls and an equitable society. If you have ever met me then you know that this is exactly the type of organization that I want to shout from the rooftops about. Helping girls realize the strength they have within and become strong, independent, vocal members of society. This, in my humble opinion should be everyone's goal. When women win, we all win. Today it is such a blessing to have organizations like Girls Inc., Girl Up and Lean In, etc. because it represents an awareness of this need in our society. I am honored to be even considered for such an opportunity because my hope is to one day be a catalyst for female empowerment, confidence and financial security whenever I can.

Rather than blab on for paragraphs about my excitement. I would rather direct you to the Girls Inc. Pacific Northwest website so that you can learn all about their mission. I would also like to ask you for your help. Click on any of the images on this page to visit the Girls Inc. website and read all about the women that are nominated this year and vote. While I would obviously love for you to vote for me, my real ask is simply that you vote for someone on this list. All of the women who are nominated are doing great things to honor and build up other women in our community. Passion, purpose and effort like that deserves to be supported. So, vote for me, vote for them...JUST VOTE and support Girls Inc. and their mission.

Till next time, keep supporting positive content on the internet. Check out any of the organziations I mentioned in this post by clicking on their logos below.
