power

power of a smile

Today is National Power of the Smile Day. Well, according to the internet. This same site couldn't find any details Having a day about the power of smiling is a good idea. Except this smile day is different. This one is about the POWER of smiling. How cool is that?

I believe in the power of a smile and the experts agree with me. Smiling is good for our health. It increases immunity, reduces stress and some say even adds years to your life expectancy.  Smiling changes your mood and even makes you look more attractive.  And you can't tell me that seeing the smile of a kid doesn't make you feel wonderful which is a very powerful feeling.

Maybe you don't believe in stuff like this, even when research is there to back it up. That is okay. Everyone has the right to their opinion. But here is the thing...think about how you feel when you smile. Heck, think about how you feel when people smile at you. It's like a drug. You can't help but feel powerful.

And here is the thing, power is what we all need. Not the whole Pinky & the Brain take over the world kind of power. I mean confidence, self worth, empathy and kindness. That is real power. It makes the world a better place for you and the people around you. If you need more proof, check out the infographic below. Some cool info.

Have a great day, and I hope you look for smiles and that they make you feel powerful.

is your nose red?

I have one question for you...

is your nose red?

Thursday is National Red Nose Day. A day of having fun and making people laugh all to help raise money for children living in poverty. You read that right. A day of helping children by laughing! What could be better?

You and I probably won't look as cute as Otis here in a red nose BUT if we put one on and spread the word imagine how many deserving kids who are as cute as Otis we can help. (they may not be AS cute, I am a little biased, I can admit, I think I deserve that right as an aunt.)

The inaugural Red Nose Day will be held in the US on May 21st, 2015. People across the country will come together to have fun and raise funds and awareness.

Richard Curtis, co-founder of Red Nose Day, said: “For many years, I have dreamt of bringing Red Nose Day to the US, and I am so excited that we have teamed up with NBC, who will do such a brilliant job on this. Experience has taught me how extraordinarily compassionate and generous Americans can be, and I’ve lived my life in awe of American comedy talent. So putting those two things together will, I hope, create an amazing event that will really make a massive difference to the lives of millions of children and their families in the US and in the poorest countries around the world.

I assume after reading this far, that you have decided that you are IN! So what is next? First things first...GET A RED NOSE, no sunburn required.

You can get your red nose for $1 at Walgreens & Duane Reade stores. If this is ALL you do, which I know it won't be, you have already donated because 50 cents of every nose sold goes to the Red Nose Day Fund

So, now what? Well now the fun begins. There are tons of ways that you can help through fundraising and the website even has some great easy ideas on how to do this. But no matter what you do, the next three are crucial

wear your nose

take a picture and post to social media on your page as well as the Red Nose Day pages listed here and hashtag #rednoseday

If that's all you do, I get it, you're busy and there are so many great causes out there, all of which are deserving of your help. BUT...

this one is for the kids.

Who is more deserving than kids? So take it a step forward, again the website has a ton of ideas, some are listed in the image below but don't forget to visit their website for even more ideas and Fundraising Toolkit.

If that isn't enough, check out the NBC special on Thursday, May 21st for lots of music and laughs and more information on this great charity.

Is your nose red yet? Share you pictures with me and join me and my family support this great charity helping other families.
